Evelyn's poetry and prose have appeared in literary publications across North America, including Best American Poetry 1992, Michigan Quarterly Review, the Kenyon Review, the Southern Review, and the Malahat Review. One of her novels, Runaway, was a Canadian best seller and was adapted into a CBC Movie of the Week, The Diary of Evelyn Lau. She has also written Fresh Girls and Other Stories, In the House of Slaves, and Other Women. In 1992, she was nominated for the Governor-General's Award for Poetry, for Oedipal Dreams. Her prose books have been translated into a dozen languages.
