Art Zhang and the Edmonton Chinese Art Society

Art Zhang, BA, Mmus, is the president of the Edmonton Chinese Art Society (ECAS) and leads the ECAS Ensemble which specializes in music played on traditional Chinese instruments. The ECAS organized a Lunar New Year Gala to celebrate the Year of the Tiger and played to a full house at the Winspear in January 1998. The Art Division of the ECAS will present a 15 day contemporary art exhibition at City Hall on June 1, 1998. Alberta Ballet, with the support of ECAS, will make a cultural exchange tour to China in September and October 1998. Since its inception in 1992, the ECAS has premiered various productions, including Night of Dragon, Voice of Spring, Journey to Qing Dynasty, and A Night of the Yellow River. Its members have performed at the First Night Festival and the Heritage Festival.
